감홍로는 고려시대 평양에서 만들어진 우리나라 최초의 소주로, 왕에게 진상하던 조선 3대 명주 중 하나입니다. ‘맛이 달고 붉은 빛을 띠는 이슬 같은 술’ 이라는 뜻이 담겨져 있죠. 감홍로의 주조 과정을 살펴보면 사용된 재료가 무척 흥미롭습니다. 좁쌀 누룩과 쌀로 고두밥을 지은 뒤 두 번에 걸쳐 증류하여 원액을 만드는데요. 이렇게 빚어진 술에 용안육과 계피, 정향 등 다채로운 약재를 넣고 우린 뒤 침출시키면 감홍로가 완성됩니다. 전 세계에 멸종 위기에 처한 전통 식재료를 보존하는 캠페인, 맛의 방주에 등재된 귀한 술이라 그 의미가 더욱 값지답니다.
